Path of Caylin
Kyle
On a rather cloudy day during rush hour traffic, a driver attempted the impossible to somehow maneuver through the traffic of the Dalles metropolitan area.
He has already turned on the blue light and the sirens on the roof of the car to made it unmistakably clear that the person in the ambulance does not have much time.
Behind him, the driver hears only his colleague Mike trying to help the woman.
The woman, with a ball-round belly and a face filled with pain, from which already sweat was pouring down, is lying on the stretcher in the ambulance.
At about 15.32 pm came all at once an emergency call.
Emergency: A woman living alone, highly pregnant, has collapsed in her house and is no longer in the condition to move.
The time could not have been more fitting.
Exactly at the moment when the majority of working people finish their work and want to go home, that's when such a serious emergency comes in.
The medics were dispatched immediately, but took far too long to arrive at the woman's home.
The time could not have been more appropriate.
Right now, when most of the people who work want to get home after work, that's when such a serious emergency comes in.
The medics were dispatched immediately, but took far too long to arrive at the woman's home.
As the ambulance makes its way through the traffic with minimal consideration for the passengers, Mike tries to somehow stabilize the woman.
But he never loses sight of the monitors that show him the woman's condition.
- not good -
Mike thinks.
While the woman watches the medic as he takes care of her despite the extremely rough drive, she only sees how his face becomes slightly tense.
She already knows that something is wrong with her, after she had collapsed, she was just able to call the ambulance.
The ambulance, which took an eternity, decided shortly after arrival that she urgently needs to go to the hospital.
She had not been feeling well all week, but since yesterday she had been feeling better until she suddenly saw her husband.
The man from which she expects a child.
But now she is in the middle of a traffic jam and sees only her husband smiling and holding her hand.
She feels a prick in her left arm.
She briefly looks to the left and sees the medic doing something, but she doesn't know exactly what the medic is doing, and she's not interested either.
When she looks at her right, she sees her husband.
The man who traveled the world with her and has known her since childhood.
The man who got himself the "shittiest job" as a highway worker, just to take care of her soon to be family.
The man who promised to be by her side forever.
The man who left her a few months ago.
The one who stands next to her and holds her hand with a smile.
"All is fine, Tommes" Mike hears the woman whisper. Mike is briefly confused about who Tommes is, but then...
*beep* *beep* *beep* *bee...*
Suddenly all the alarms from the equipment go on.
"Pull over! I need you back here!" yells Mike to the driver.
In the middle of a traffic jam while other drivers are trying to make room for the ambulance, the ambulance suddenly stops.
The surrounding drivers are first upset when they saw that the ambulance stops and they now need even more time to get home.
But then they saw the driver get out to go to the back.
After the other medic enters the ambulance and sees the readings, he starts to lose his hopes.
The monitors show only one weak heartbeat, probably that of the unborn baby.
Miraculously, a child was born this afternoon under less than desirable circumstances.
The two medics gave everything to bring the mother back somehow.
But then they had to decide for the sake of the child.
Nevertheless, the child was never allowed to get to know its mother.
Afterwards Mike and his colleague brought the infant to the hospital.
There he was checked from top to bottom and they began to search for relatives.
which however also after intensive search could not be found therefore, the nameless child was given to an orphanage where he should not stay long.
It did not last long when an alone living teacher adopted the child.
Osmund is a caring man who has always wanted to raise a child, but he has never really had the desire to approach the female side.
He himself had been an orphan and visits his old orphanage every now and then to help out as a local volunteer.
After seeing the newly born infant, he couldn't help but think about this child.
He didn't have to spend much time thinking about it and decided to adopt Kyle.
Kyle the name of a childhood friend, he wanted to gift it to the child.
The years went by swiftly while Osmund took care of little Kyle and raised him.
Kyle was not a wunderkind, but rather normal, yet also quite reserved.
Through Osmund he learned to read early and he also developed an unnatural passion for it.
This was especially true in the afternoons when he came home from preschool and Osmund had to do a lot of preparation for his students' classes.
When Kyle was 8 years old, he started reading novels, mostly Isekais.
Osmund is a teacher at the College of Music and Culture.
Through his protective father, Kyle made it to the same school where his father was teaching.
On his first day, Osmund took it upon himself to personally show him around the school and introduce him to the various teachers.
It didn't take long for Kyle to find his way around the school and also find his own routine.
Since he has a somewhat reserved personality, he often spends time in the schoolyard reading his books.
The same was true on this day.
*dong*
-The school bell, hmm... now it's math-
Kyle thinks as he makes his way to class.
The school is not exactly a new building and rather, very much built in the old style.
The building also has several floors, a total of 4 and the storm cellar.
From the schoolyard into the building it goes only through the impressive main entrance with its old wooden double doors.
Directly in the entrance area you will find a mosaic painting of the school's emblem when you look up. To the left and right you come to the chemistry and physics rooms.
Straight ahead you come to a quite impressing staircase.
"Kyle, wait for me!" shouts Max, a classmate who meets Kyle in the staircase.
He is the more reserved one and doesn't say somthing but stops in the middle of the stairs, much to the displeasure of the girl behind him.
"HEYY... Watch it," says Elissa, who has run into Kyle.
Elissa is a protege girl from equally high house. The daughter of the town mayor to be exact.
Kyle was totally embarrassed that such a mistake had to happen to him with her, and all he could say was: "Sorry" and took a step to the side.
After Elissa passed by, with a grunt, he looks at his present evil with a accusing look.
Max quite unaffected "Did you do the homework in math, I somehow didn't have time for it yesterday."
- You only had time for it yesterday, didn't you! -
Kyle thought as he walked back to the classroom: "Yes I did, but you don't have enough time to do them now".
One has to say that this is a task for a whole week.
"Never mind, just let me look in," says Max, who is walking next to Kyle. This is not the first time he forgets his homework and asks Kyle.
And forgetting the homework with our math teacher is never a good idea.
"Yeah, you can do that," Kyle returned with a light sigh.
After the two of them entered the math room, they could already see that Max is not the only one who forgets the homework.
Kyle took his usual seat by the window in the middle of the room.
The rooms in the school were always assigned to one subject.
In this case, it's the math room with its walls covered in math formals.
Max sits down right next to Kyle and starts talking about how great he was at the rugby tournament where he placed 3rd.
And today after school his parents are going to their uncle's house to celebrate.
- I wonder how it continues with these dwarfs who recently arrived... -
Kyle lost in his own world did not really heard what Max told him.
Eventually the teacher arrived and it became quiet.
The role model teacher Mr. Kaspalt.
You really don't want to be on his bad side.
The hour begins and Mr. Kaspalt asks row by row the homework.
To some who have not completed the tasks Mr. Kaspalt then only says that he wanted to collect them until next week. In the meantime Max has taken Kyle's math book.
Shortly afterwards, Mr. Kaspalt asked Max for the result of the task.
"42" says Max.
"that's right. Kyle task 7 c, please that.... don't you have your own math notebook?" Mr. Kaspalt notices directly that Kyle has pulled back his math notebook.
"Yes I do, but I only let Max look at it" Kyle defended directly.
"Is that so. Alright Mr. Max Rudich, where is your notebook? You don't have one. Well, then you can stay longer this afternoon. Maybe next time you'll be a little more honest."
- Phew... I'm lucky I escaped that one... -
Kyle thought while listening to the conversation with Max and Mr. Kaspalt.
The rest of the hour was pretty uneventful.
Except for Max.
He seemed very upset.
Kyle himself seemed a bit depressed because he was the one who exposed him, but what was he supposed to do?
Get himself in trouble? Only to not be able to read his current favorite novel? No way!
As soon as the lesson ended, Kyle left the class with the others and was about to go downstairs when he heard someone behind him yell out loud.
"Do you have any idea what I'm in for today because of you!" Max shouted, rather annoyed.
Kyle turned around, because he wanted to answer Max, but Max do not let him come to word.
"ALL BECAUSE OF YOU!"
Probably because Max couldn't think straight at this moment, but it happend and he acted on impulse.
Kyle, who had turned around to confront Max, suddenly felt a powerful thrust to him.
What happened in the next moment happened so fast that Kyle didn't completly realize it what happend to him.
There were screams.
He saw Max with a horrified face.
And somehow everything feel weightless.
Only then did he realize that he had just been pushed over the railing and was falling. Kyle only saw Max's horrified face and then...
then there was nothing.
