As they drove down the road, Lilly guiltily asked: “Eve, the things Todd was saying….”

“Ahh…” Eve scratched her nose as she said: “It was all true except the part of me being a spy. Because the place I came from was the reclamation center. But who told those bastards to try to hunt me down!?  I didn’t even kill anyone when I escaped, but they still hunted me down. I was just defending myself.”

Lilly looked over to see Eve with her arms crossed across her chest and her cheeks puffing out and smiled. She was not mad or upset that Eve killed other humans. To her, whether Eve killed thousands of humans did not matter. Eve was now her most important person besides Tezz, and she loved her no matter what. But thinking of how much Todd was trying to pin the blame on Eve, and everything he said was completely true made Lilly laugh. “I wonder if he would go insane if he knew the truth.”

“So what if he did? Fuck him. He dares try to steal what's mine. He’s lucky I didn’t crush his head!” Eve was a bit jealous. This is why she got so mad. The damn man eyed her girlfriend. She was not going to let such a thing slide! Lilly smiled and felt her heart warm. Eve was actually jealous. Just this thought alone made Lilly happy. 

“Tezz, you can move now,” Eve said as she picked Tezz up and placed her on the dashboard of the truck. “You can move all you want, but if you see another vehicle, don’t move.”

“Okay!” Tezz little stubby paws pock, pocked across the dashboard and sat down in front of the window and looked out over the desolate land. “So this is the outside world?”

“Mhmm… It is not much to look at, but it is what the outside world looks like right now.” Eve replied as she reached out and petted Tezz’s head. “Aiu, I wish I could do this to you sometimes...”

“I do not think that will ever be possible. But if you do wish to do so, you can just pet your own head.” Aiu replied. Although she made a joke, she was slightly envious of Tezz.

“I do not think that would be good. Lilly would think I was losing my circuits.” Eve sighed. She truly wished before she died, she had given Aiu her own body.

“Where should we head to?” Lilly asked. She had no idea where she should be going.

“To the lab from before. There were still many places we did not search.” Eve said as she curled up on the bench seat of the truck and rested her head on Lilly’s lap. Although she did not sleep, she just felt like closing her eyes for a little while. 

Lilly thought nothing of it and reached down with one hand and ran her fingers through Eve’s hair before gently massaging her scalp. Eve was glad she put in touch sensors and the ability to feel sensations. Lilly’s gentle massage relaxed her.

They drove for a few hours before they finally reached the lab they had been to before when they first met. Eve sat up as she felt the truck come to a stop and scanned the surroundings. Her two metal horns on the top of her head were very handy for scanning the area. “Seems to be clear.”

“Then let’s get going. Tezz, get into my front pocket and strap in.” Lilly had made a special pouch in her jacket just for Tezz. It had a small strap that allowed Tezz to slip her body into it so even if Lilly turned upside down, Tezz would not fall out. 

“Okay!” Tezz did as she was told and climbed into the pocket and strapped in before sticking her head out so she could see.

“Let’s take a look inside first to make sure nothing is off before backing the truck up and using the winch,” Eve said as she got out of the truck. She wanted to be sure there were no surprises. She reached behind the seat and pulled out a large shotgun-looking weapon which was a custom-made railgun. Lilly also got out and got a few weapons and attached them to her person before shutting her door. 

“Eve, are you all set?” Lilly asked as she pulled a small remote from her pocket.

“Yeah, you can turn on the security system” With Eve’s words, a loud clang and a bunch of metal against metal noises could be heard as Lilly pressed a button. The truck went from looking like a normal truck to being secured to the ground with huge spikes, and the windows covered with metal shutters. Eve spent a lot of time working on the security measures to make sure no one could steal the truck if they were out searching for stuff. 

“Mmm… just like the tests, it is working well.” Eve looked the truck over in great detail and nodded her head in approval. She and Lilly did a fine job in designing the mechanisms.

“I am glad we thought of this. I have always worried about raiders stealing the old man’s hauler or a scavenger trying to rip it apart. To be stuck this far out without a vehicle can be deadly.” Lilly slapped the hood of the truck with a smile.

“Let me go in first and check the air quality. You stay at the door for now.” Eve said as she held her gun in her hands and walked towards the entrance. She scanned the inside area first and looked around before walking inside. She wanted to be extra careful. There was no telling what she would run into now that she had learned more about this current time. She did not want to get careless and end up damaging her new skin. It would lead to many problems down the road. 

Once Eve tested the air, she called out to Lilly to come in. When Lilly walked over, Eve told her her plan. “We will check every room on this floor first to be sure they are all clear. We can not trust only my scanners. When we go down below, put your mask on.”

“I will put my mask on now just in case.”
