Reborn As An A.I. With A System
Sometimes Even The Dead Like To Go Out For Walks Part 2
A thin piece of metal shot out of the barrel of Eve’s rail gun at such a high speed it actually broke the sound barrier causing a small sonic boom. It pierced through the air and smashed right into the spot between the zombie's brow. The impact alone caused the head to explode out the back, creating a massive hole. The innards of the skull splashed all over the walls and floor directly behind the zombie. Its body swayed before crumbling to the ground.
Inside the door shelter, Lilly’s stomach lurched as she watched the scene of the head exploding. She desperately held it in and went back to welding, not daring to look back at that scene again. As for Eve, she showed no emotion as she raised her gun again and fired into the dark hallway. More splattering sounds were heard.
“Oh ho! This gun is not bad at all. The range is just right. But I wonder how many zombies are in this place.” Eve mumbled but soon heard a strange sound to her right. She turned her head and saw the dozens of corpses that she had to always walk over to enter the lab begin to stir. At the same time, a lot of shuffling was coming in every direction. “Damn, did this whole place wake up!?”
Eve could not detect them since they did not have any heat signature. This caused her to frown as she could only use sight to target her enemies. With no choice, Eve took out another gun and began firing non-stop. She was thanking her smart self for bringing over a hundred clips that held one hundred rounds each for her rail guns.
The sounds of heads exploding echoed throughout the lab and up the elevator shaft. Eve kept a close eye on the zombies at the elevator shaft door. She realized now why the rewards were so good. It was because the zombies at the door could easily fall out and down into the elevator shaft. If they somehow found a way out, they could easily escape.
“Eve done!” Lilly yelled out. She had melted holes in the window with her torch to create a spot for her to fire from. “I will keep an eye on the hallway leading down. You handle the ones at the entrance.”
“Okay, thanks!” Eve ran forward and jumped over the huge pile of corpses, now turned zombies. Her body flipped through the air and began firing at will. Each of her shots was on mark. Not a single one missed as heads exploded all over.
When she landed, she smashed a zombie's head underfoot and kept firing into the pile. Clip after clip was expended as the zombies in the pile blew up one after the other. Lilly was doing her best to keep the zombies from the hallway at bay, but she was not as experienced as Eve, who had combat training installed into her mind to kill them in one shot. But she was still killing them in every two or three shots.
“Eve, I am almost out of ammo!” Lilly yelled out as she ejected another clip. She only had about ten clips, and she had already used up eight.
“Just hold out until I finish this mess. If needed, switch to the plasma gun.” Eve had almost cleaned up the zombies in the plie. The once stack of human flesh was now nothing more than a few remaining zombies. She quickly finished them off before running to grab a door from the side and returning to put it in front of the elevator shaft blocking off the exit.
Once the door was in place, She ran over to Lilly and tossed her a few clips. “Just keep firing. We will stay here and let them come to us until there is nothing left. If the mission completes, we will finish what we came here to do. If not, I will go hunt down the rest after blocking the hallways and only leaving the single entrance.”
“Alright. I will just take this as live target practice to prepare me for the future.” Lilly's aim had gotten a lot better than when she started off. After killing so many zombies, she was now able to take one or two shots to kill them.
“It is indeed good practice and a good trial run for our new weapons. They work much better than I would have ever imagined.” Eve said with a laugh. The weapons her and Lilly made were made from scraps but were very powerful.
After almost another thirty minutes, the zombies stopped coming down the hall. Eve walked over to each hall entrance and listened carefully, and looked around. Only when she did not hear or see anything did she decide it was time to hunt down any leftover zombies. “Lilly, stay here. I will be back. If anyone besides me shows up, shoot them no matter what, okay?”
“Mmm… I will kill anyone who isn’t you. Eve be careful!” Lilly would never trust anyone outside the city walls. By doing so, you are only asking for death.
Eve gave Lilly a nod and ran off. She pulled more doors off their hinges and barricaded up the hall entrances before walking down the middle hall. As she did, she checked each room. If she found a corpse, she would shoot it in the head. She would then loot the shelves of any chemicals. She figured since she had to go into each of the rooms, she might as well grab what she needed. She walked for ten minutes until she finally looped around to the right side to the opposite side of the right hall entrance that she had barricaded. She then turned and backtracked her way down the left side. She also kept her ears open to listen for Lilly’s voice just in case.
When she made her way around to the left side, she found one room where the door seemed to be stuck and inside one a single zombie. “This should be it.” Eve pulled the trigger and killed the zombie.
