An Offer He Could Not Refuse

“Hahaha! Jackie, you got some good friends.” Jackie’s father had always liked Stacey. He felt she was a sweet girl and a good influence on his daughter. He was never one to care about background so even if Stacey was poor she had good moral character and never asked for anything from Jackie. When he heard that this little girl was getting married, he was a little worried she was being taken advantage of, but seeing the two defend each other without caring who the other party was made him smile. 

“Mmm… they are very good friends. But some wish to covet what they can not have.” Jackie smiled as she looked at the two girls.

The two girls who were still standing there couldn’t help but lower their eyes, blushing. They couldn’t help it. Kane was too handsome just now. To see him defending his wife without caring for the other person’s status made them wish he was their boyfriend or husband. They did not mind marrying poor if it meant they could have a man who truly cared for them. 

“Alright, you two, carry on. My family and friends have plans.” Jackie did not want to stand around any longer. She ignored the two girls, hooked arms with Stacey, and pulled her from Kane. “Come, my little princess, today is your day.”

“Umm… I’m the one who married her, so isn’t it my day, too?” Kane asked, feeling left out.

“Marriage is for girls. You are just along for the ride.” Jackie spat out before pulling Stacey along with her. Stacey giggled and turned and stuck her tongue out at Kane, causing him to smile helplessly. 

“Haha. Kane, was it?” Jackie’s father walked over and patted him on the back. “Mind if I join the festivities?”

“Of course, Mr. Heartland.” Kane would not say no. He had helped them, after all. If he had not been here, things might not have been solved so quickly.

“Good! Good!” The more Jackie’s father talked with Kane, the more he liked him. If polygamy was allowed, he would want him to marry his daughter as well! 

The two girls stared at Kane’s back and clenched their fists. “Becky, I am starting to feel hanging out with these rich guys is no longer any fun.”

“I was about to say the same thing.” The other girl replied. She felt it was a bit unfair to see someone a few years younger than them marry someone like Kane. They had also witnessed the scene outside where he gave Stacey her ring. While money could do a lot, if there was no love, it was not worth it. At least, this was what they thought at this moment. 

In the private room, dishes were being served, and music was playing. Jackie’s father had pulled Kane aside and was talking with him. “So, what are your plans for the future?”

“I am planning to try to follow my dream still. I just wrote a song and recorded it. But I still need to post it online. If it does well, then I might build up a big enough fanbase to actually make a living. There are many platforms I can post the song on, so it will all depend on my luck, I guess. Of course, I am still working two jobs at the same time.” Kane replied honestly. He was never one to really lie about things.

“I see… this is not a bad route to take. Many singer-songwriters get contracts through such platforms. I tell you what, if you want to earn some decent money and still do your music without much interruption, then how about coming to work for me? You have a decent build and are quite handsome. With how tall you are, you could easily become a model for my company. Maybe even do a commercial or two. I promise the pay will be much better than what you are getting now.” Jackie’s father had really taken a liking to Kane. He was still trying to follow his dreams while working two jobs at that. Such a hard-working character was hard to find nowadays.

Kane thought about it and looked over at Stacey, who was chatting happily with his grandmother, her mother, and Jackie, and nodded. He knew he had to give her a good life. An opportunity like this was not something he could pass up. Luckily, it was coming from someone he could trust. “I will take you up on that offer. But can I still give a two-week notice at my jobs? They have done a lot for me.”

“Haha, sure! This is the way it should be. I will work out the details and have a lawyer go over things with you before you sign the contract. I will even have Jackie be there so she can tell you if I am trying to trick you or not.” Jackie’s father smiled and patted Kane’s back hard.

Kane could only smile and grit his teeth. The man hit hard! “Then I will be relying on you from now on, Boss.”

“Haha! Good!” Jackie’s father was in high spirits. He felt this was destiny that brought this young man to him. He did not know why, but he felt something about this kid. He felt one day, he would be a star not just in music but in the acting world as well. 

“What are you two talking so secretly about over there?” Stacey walked over and sat in Kane’s lap, hooking her arms around his neck. “Uncle George, you are not trying to take advantage of my husband, are you?”

“Haha! Little girl, don’t worry, I would never do such a thing. My daughter would kill me. But I did offer him a job, one that will allow him to take good care of you while he builds his music career.”

“I see!” Stacey smiled and kissed Kane’s cheek. “Congratulations.”
