The Star System: Rise To The Top

After buying a guitar, Kane, who had a dream of becoming a singer-songwriter, stumbled upon a strange glass bead that held within it a system called the Star System. From this moment on, Kane's life slowly started to change. He completed missions and worked hard to earn money to follow his dream, all while taking…

Without Regrets

Kane left Stacey’s house to go back to his. He figured it would be good for the two to have some alone time together. He also needed to explain things to his grandmother.

When he returned His grandmother was pacing back and forth in the hallway. When she heard the door unlock and saw her grandson walking in she looked at him with worried eyes. “How did it go?”

“Things are fine now. Well on the surface anyway. Stacey and her mother are talking about her marriage.” Kane replied without much thought.

Kane’s grandmother nodded her head before pausing and looking at Kane and asking: “Marriage? What marriage?”

“Stacey and I will be getting our marriage certificate. Stacey wanted to have her mother there for when she got married. While I can not give a full wedding at this time, we can at least get our certificate and celebrate our marriage between our two families.” Kane replied. He saw his Grandmother’s brow twitch a few times as she slowly walked over to him and slammed him off the top of his head.

“What do you mean you are getting married!? How can you just do something like this out of the blue!?” Kane’s grandmother yelled.

“When Stacey asked me, I saw no reason to reject her. I already decided that I would never leave her side. I even promised her I would never leave her alone. We are just getting our certificate so things will be no different than they are now except she will officially be my wife. Later on, when I have enough money I will be sure to hold a proper wedding.” Kane answered while rubbing the top of his head.

He pursed his lips and looked at his grandmother who seemed to have mixed emotions and sighed. “I also think this is a bit rushed, but the circumstances do not allow us to wait. I want to help fulfill Helen’s wish and I also do not mind binding myself to Stacey. Call me stupid if you want. But I do love her. We get along so well. I do not see us ever breaking apart.”

Kane’s grandmother massaged her temples before nodding her head. “Yeah, you two are pretty much perfect for each other. I guess with the way you two act now, it would not matter if you were married or not. But Kane, just so you know, that girl will be even more dependent on you now more than ever. Do not let her down.”

“I know this. I, no…. We will be her only family left. I will be sure to watch over her and protect her.” Kane would not treat Stacey any different than he already had been. Their relationship might be taking the next step sooner but their day-to-day lives would not change.

“Alright. Just tell me when you are going. I will go with you.” Kane’s grandmother was not against the idea. She actually liked Stacey a lot and felt she was perfect for her grandson. She always helped around the house and spent time with her when Kane was gone to work.

“Old woman don’t forget about me!” A voice came from the other room. Kane’s grandfather walked over leaning against his cane.

“Old man, who wants you to follow them anywhere?” Kane’s grandmother snorted as she ignored the old man. It seemed he had done something to make her angry earlier.

“Are you still mad because I smacked your butt earlier? Back when we were young, you would always like it when I did that!” Kane’s grandfather did not understand why his wife was mad at him. Kane on the other hand shook his head. He had just heard a bit too much information.

“I will call you when we figure out the time. I will be staying at Stacey’s house for the next few months.” Kane explained things to his grandparents before he was shooed out the door after he had gotten a change of clothes. He knew he would be running back and forth so he did not pack more than he needed for a single night.

When Kane returned to Stacey’s house, he could smell food being cooked. He walked over to see Stacey leaning against her mother as her mother stirred the pot of what seemed to be a stew.

He quietly made his way to the living room and sat down on the couch. He placed his bag at the side and had just leaned back when a figure appeared out of nowhere and jumped into his lap. He looked down to see Stacey pressing her face into his chest hugging him. He reached up and gently stroked the top of her head.

“You two really do make a cute couple.” Stacey’s mother came into the living room and said with a smile.

“I hear that a lot from my grandmother. However, I still think I am the cuter one in the rela-ouch!” Kane felt a strong pinch under his arm and looked at the big eyes looking back up at him with pursed lips. “Stacey use words not nails!”

“Then don’t say stupid things,” Stacey replied while sticking her tongue out.

Kane sighed and flicked the silly’s girl’s forehead. “Ouch! Kane!”

“Haha! I am happy.” Stacey’s mother’s voice trembled. She was glad. Her daughter really did find a perfect man for herself. She did not care if Kane was rich or poor. As long as he loved her daughter and was willing to be with her for life she could slip into her eternal sleep without any regrets.
