The Princess Knight: Dimensional Shift
Chapter 3
‘Tsss…’ Angelica woke up to extreme pain coming from her chest. She also felt something heavy on top of her. Her ears were filled with the sounds of yelling, and her nose was filled with the smell of blood. She slowly opened her blurry eyes to see a night sky filled with smoke and three moons. She was slightly confused as to what was going on but, at the same time, had some kind of understanding. The only issue was the pain she felt in her chest. She struggled to move the object on top of her to the side, even if the pain was unbearable.
It was not until she could look down to see what was wrong that she froze in place. An arrow to the chest… the clothes she had on that were covered in blood. ‘The body of the little girl?’ Angelica could only think this was the case.
Angelica also knew one more thing. Her current situation was not good. If her assumption was right, then she had been pulled into the space-time rift. Her soul or consciousness had been stuffed into the body of this little girl, which meant her original body either collapsed as an empty shell, had the little girl's consciousness or soul in it, or, in the most likely scenario, it had been torn to pieces on the microscopic level and was no longer even a speck of dust of it left.
But now this came to what was bad about her situation. The arrow. The arrow to her heart was not something the people of this low civilization level could heal. But she also could not keep the arrow in her. So there was only one option. She could only pull the arrow out and hope the gods of this world had spared her, and the arrow was only next to her heart and missed all the blood vessels that could cause her to bleed out. She was not completely numb to human biology, but she did not take any classes on it and only read about it out of pure interest when she was bored.
Angelica looked around her and saw some burning wood not too far away. If she wanted a quick way to stop the bleeding… ‘I guess I have no choice.’ Angelica saw the people running by her, paying her no mind, and already felt like this place she was in was useless. ‘They see the arrow and probably think I am dead.’
Angelica reached over and grabbed hold of a burning stick with her left hand and grabbed hold of the arrow with her right. She took a deep breath, knowing what she was about to do was going to hurt like hell, and clenched her teeth as she ripped the arrow in her chest up with all her strength, pulling it out as straight as possible. As soon as she saw the arrowhead, she slammed the burning wood onto the wound. “Ahhh!!!!”
The searing sensation as her skin burned caused Angelica to cry out in pain. She held the burning stick to her chest for a good thirty seconds before finally pulling it away and patting any flames on her clothing out before once more doing it again. This time for a shorter time. She had no idea if she was doing it right, but she only wanted to keep herself from bleeding out. From here, it would be whether or not she was bleeding internally or if she would get an infection.
Angelica tossed the burning stick to the side and lay there looking up at the sky. ‘Heh… if i die at least i will die knowing i achieved what no one else has ever done before. Not only did I tear a hole in time and space but I also traveled to another world and took over someone's body.’
Angelica was not scared of death. To her, it was just another experiment. She would get to see what happens after death firsthand. As she lay there staring at the unfamiliar stars, she began to feel a warm, pleasant sensation in her chest. The stinging pain in her chest from where she had burned it just now ceased. She looked down and was stunned at what she saw. The gnarled skin from being burnt was slowly healing at a speed visible to the eye.
Five seconds…
Ten seconds…
A minute later, no sign of any wound could be found. No scar, no nothing. The entire wound had healed so fast it was beyond Angelica's comprehension. She reached over and touched the smooth skin on her chest in shock. ‘Self healing? Some kind of ability?’ Angelica did not understand what had just happened, but it seemed someone wanted her to live. She sat up, feeling perfectly fine, and covered her exposed chest with her left arm. She looked at the thing still heavy on her legs and pushed it away. It was the woman who had covered the girl.
She looked at the stiff, bloody figure and sighed. In a low whisper she gave her thanks. “Thank you for protecting this little one.”
Angelica did not know who the woman was, but she was a good person who gave up her own life to protect a child. She slowly got up and looked over at the wall that was on fire and at the others who were trying to put out the fire and felt a little lost. She only knew this place was under attack, but they still ignored those who were injured. It was not just her who had fallen but quite a few people. Not that it mattered to her. She did not know these people, and she did not want to stay in some rundown village. It seemed like a pain…
