I May Misunderstand The Term ‘Hero’
Chapter 52: Eel’s grave mistake…
Eel was happy enough with how everything went and as such was happily strolling through the field of grass.
Her hands gently rested on the front of her ‘utility belt’ while her nose was held high. She was currently trying to whistle but was having great difficulty so ended up sounding more like blowing out hot air. Something she, as a good dragon, usually didn’t do! Not like she needed to talk herself up though. A badass must always know they’re a badass and she is a badass. Even if she’s getting chased around by a big bad guy with multicoloured hair.
However, that ‘little problem’ should be dealt with by Photon & {Sovereign of Storms} who are (currently) far stronger than she is. As a nine-tailed dragon of death she was more than sure she’d catch up to them soon enough; well as soon as she actually awakened more than a slither of those bloodlines. At present she was comparable to being dozens of generations apart from the ‘direct descendants’ in human terms despite that very much not being the case. She could only access a slither of her ‘true bloodline’. She had no ideas about why it was but she was aware of the large problem which caused it…
She lacked a core.
Without that all important magic core she was akin to a human with far superior bloodlines giving her overwhelming power; well more like a lizard-kin vampire-peon. A lizard-kin vampire-peon who came from an overwhelming draconic bloodline (though very weak at current) and served the strongest vampire family (though at the bottom of the family). If she had the core though she believed she would lose only to the ancestors themselves - those ancestors being top of toppler level threats!
What did it mean to be a toppler level threat? Well it meant you were on the same level as a {Pillars of the Mortal Realm} or rather could actually pose some level of threat to them. Killing Mother was basically impossible but creating issues in relation to what she wanted was possible for the topplers. Examples of topplers ranged from the adopted daughter of Mother, {Sierra the Goddess of Moonlight}, to {Violet Indigo - Demon God Empress of Absolute} but something linked them all together… They were crazy OP!
Each of them easily had the power to destroy a regular planet or two and if {Imperda} wasn’t the genesis of all life which Mother loved it would have blown up years ago. Then you had the top tiers like Violet… Although she was unquestionably the top of the top just like Mother it wasn’t as if they were the only beings able to destroy entire realms on a whim. Compared to that Eel knew she stood no chance. Luckily she wasn’t on any random planet or realm else she may have been hunted down.
Who wouldn’t want those types of bloodlines and out in the wider realms there were many ways to recognise such a powerful bloodline even if it hadn’t activated. In this {Mortal Realm} there were grand intergalactic empires only separated by a little barrier. A barrier kept up with multiple topplers but a barrier nonetheless!
She didn’t need to worry about all that till she was strong enough to get past the barrier - most people couldn’t get out. But as a descendent of bother Mother & Violet who would fucking stop her if she wanted to go out for a breather!
So with that she already had a plan in mind for her life. A complex one which would decide the very person she becomes in the future:
1) Gain Core become OP - defeating a demon lord would be good at the end of the first volume
2) Go to school because it’s a requirement for any story where I will need to face the evilest threat of all… Hormonal children! Likely some nobles and evil merchants as well… Can become a god at this point but it’s fine if turn into a late bloomer and do in pt.3
3) Adventuring around various places in the west then east would be good; challenging everyone of decent strength would be good. Probably find some overarching evil guy at this point though.
3.5) Make a nice den at some point to store loads of treasure so can sleep on a bed made of treasure… For personal reasons.
4) Expand her horizons!
5) Profit
A side point is to of course have a big family of her own!
To do that first part though she needed to figure out how to get her core; who better to ask than Chaos J Faust who was known for being smart and stuff? Probably a lot of people but they were going to {Goberz}! First was to fill a few chapters with their adventurer there and so with everything finally sorted and simplified Eel was happy to head on with her journey with her adorable little cowubus.
Unfortunately that little cowubus was a little too sharp, looking at her with a mixture of suspicion worry. Suddenly Emily stopped walking and spoke up.
“Hands…” <Emily>
Eel just kept her hands resting on her tool belt. With a warm but confident grin on her face as she looked back at the little cow (who was about her own height and also about a year older than herself). When noticing Emily stopping she too stopped but didn’t turn her body to face the cow but instead just glanced over her own shoulder but she did tilt her head in confusion at the odd comment.
“Hm~ what do you mean by that my dear princess~?” <Eel>
“Y-your hands… Show them…” <Emily>
“Pff~ if you just wanted to hold hands you could just say it out loud bu~t I feel like we should keep our guard up. We did just get attacked by the literal manifestation of genocide~!” <Eel>
However, Emily didn’t accept these excuses. Instead she shook her head with a worried look clear on her face as she seemed to gaze right through Eel’s buns to her pair of hands which was hidden from view. The reason was simple… She sensed chaotic destructive energy still present in Eel’s fists and as much as she loved Eel she didn’t seem to have any control over it.
The flames Eel used before felt demonic in nature; even if her goddess wasn’t the average ‘holier than thou’ she was still a divine being as were Munzumira & the {Faux Gods}. She was technically more of a holy warrior than their paladin, Fuka, since she had covenant with two different types of gods. That was two more than the paladin!
Long story short; she knew demonic when she saw it. Although she had never seen an actual demon other than technically Eel & herself she knew that power which Eel tapped into during the fight earlier was… Violent. The aura of those ‘flames’ didn’t feel like actual flames but far more destructive. Not relying on something as petty as ‘heat’ to destroy - what else to call it but destructive?
Eel just sighed gently and presented her hands which clearly weren’t normal; they were badly damaged. It wasn’t like they were unusable but they certainly weren’t healthy. Her skin was cracked yet she wasn’t bleeding due to controlling her own blood to do it’s job despite the terrible quality of their surroundings. The most terrifying thing about the damage though…
Was that it hadn’t healed already.
Emily & Eel both knew that if Eel could be confident about anything related to her bloodlines it was that it offered her unparalleled regeneration. She had the bloodline of the person who basically represented life itself on top of the infamous demons known for being hard to kill; vampires. As long as she ‘didn’t lose her head’ it would be very difficult for anyone to kill little Elizabeth. Even the {Sovereign of Storms} couldn’t instantly gib Eel with her {Lightening Tribulation} which was known for being heavenly thus the bane of demons like herself!
Even other vampires weren’t that unkillable as to not die at her level under such a devastating attack!
Yet… A little bit of this ‘flame’ going out of control caused Eel to not only be hurt but put her ability to regenerate endlessly into question. This level of regeneration could be accomplished by a Vampire-Peon or maybe even Hobgoblin not a Bloodleaf & Mendax mix. She should’ve long healed such a wound!
Emily carefully gripped the underside of Eel’s hands to bring them up to her own hand as she studied the damage closely. She was shocked as she gazed at those once beautiful hands though.
“T-this…” <Emily>
“Eh~ it’s nothing much! Looks much worse than it is-” <Eel>
“Yet it hasn’t healed yet even after a few minutes… It normally would have healed after you were wounded yet hasn’t even finished regenerating your blood vessels and that weird violet aura shows no signs of letting you heal…” <Emily>
“Well~ it’s slowly getting better and not like I’ve never experienced pai-” <Eel>
“No! You are healing at the regular rate aren’t you? But it’s still damaging you isn't it!” <Emily>
Eel was caught by surprise from Emily’s genuine anger and if she had a set of fox ears they would be down as she pouted sadly while lowering her head. Emily wasn’t exactly the type to get angry. This may also be the first time she’s even spoken above a whisper let alone yell at her!
“I’m sorry about this…” <Eel>
However, Emily was completely silent at this moment. She didn’t even look at Eel’s sad face but continued studying the wounded hands in front of her. She tried a few simple things such as a water healing spell, a light healing spell and even a wind one. Although they did help to heal it didn’t get rid of that violet aura as such she went a step further to confirm her suspicions. She used a holy spell to heal the wound - just as Emily expected it indeed was a demonic power as the aura was finally removed allowing Eel to fully recover from her wounds.
“So~...” <Eel>
Emily just pouted with crossed arms and turned away; walking down the path towards their destination without so much as a glance at Eel. The dragon was shocked that she acted as if [Cryostasis] was cast on herself causing her to completely freeze. She only moved when she realised her little girl had already walked a fair distance away causing her to shake it off and chase her cow tail with vigour.
“W-wait!” <Eel”
