“Lilly, can you give me that sheet, please.” Both Lilly and Eve were absorbed in creating the frame for Eve’s new head. Lily handed Eve a sheet metal lined with flexible glass circuit boards. 

“Eve, are you sure this will work?” The sheet was something that both Lilly and Eve came up with to maximize the number of systems they could add in a small space.

 “Mmm.. We were lucky that you picked up so many. By connecting a few of them and putting our own parts into them, we can connect them all into a single entity. Making bigger boards to work with. With this, we can literally boost our processing power as well as integrate many systems. Screwdriver…” Eve didn’t even look up when she explained things. What she was doing was the same idea she had when she was building Aiu’s body when she was human. This way, her ‘skull’ will be able to run many tasks alongside the main systems. In truth, she had no idea how this would all pan out, but she hoped it would work out well.

The main frame had already been constructed. Eve, now, was doing measurements and cutting the aluminum into the right shapes. “What do you think?” 

“It really is turning into a proper skull!” Lilly exclaimed. Without any references, she was shocked to see how easily Eve was creating this head from scratch. She did not know that Eve had every bit of this skull imprinted in her mind as it was the same design she had made for Aiu.

“Aiu, what do you think?” Eve asked.  

“You never change. You always add such stupid accessories.” Aiu saw the two metal horns coming out of the skull huffed. She had argued with Eve for a long time about the horns, but in the end, she gave up even though she did not like them.

“What!? But they look cute! Come on, Aiu, look, they can be convenient too! They can be used as sensors! Didn’t we go over this last time!?” Eve pursed her imaginary lips. She really thought the horns were cute!

“Fine! They do have a sort of cuteness to them… if you are into that sort of thing.” The last part of Aiu’s words were said in a mumble that Eve could not hear. 

“Hehe! I knew you would think they were cute!” Eve was smiling away on the inside as she continued her work. 

“Lilly, you need to eat.” Tezz came over and tugged on Lilly’s sleeve. She was very concerned about Lilly as she would not eat or drink if she was too absorbed in anything like she was now.

“Why do I have to be human!” Lilly pouted. She did not want to stop to do something as troublesome as eating! She got up feeling disgruntled and walked over to her fridge. As she opened the door, she started grumbling to herself:  “Stupid human body, needing food to stay alive. All eating does is cause you to shit the next day. What’s so good about it!?”

As the days passed, Eve worked diligently on her new head, and Lilly stayed by her side through the whole process, helping her debug things and build portions of the systems. The two worked well together so well that things were progressing at an amazing speed. At night while Lilly slept, Eve would converse with Aiu and Tezz and take a break from her work in order to not disturb Lilly. There were a few times where Lilly held Eve hostage in bed using her as a hard metal pillow.

In no time at all, a month passed, and Eve had come very accustomed to being around Lilly. And now, the day the two of them had been waiting for had finally arrived. “It’s finished!” 

Eve yelled out happily as she looked at the finished head. She had used a 3D printer to print out muscles to place under the skin. The filament was a soft type that gave a more realistic look. So any time a portion of her face moved, it looked just like the real thing. It did not look stiff or fake in any way. Even the skin was very realistic to the point that it even had pores that were visible if you looked close enough.

“This is truly amazing. There are no errors at all, and it all works perfectly! But one thing I do not understand is how you will put it on your body.” This was something that Lilly had been trying to figure out from the start. Without uploading Eve into the new head and attaching it to Eve’s body, there was no way for her to use it. But what truly confused her was that the programming never had such a function programmed in, which left Lilly beyond stumped.

 “Aiu, do you think this will work? Did we just waste a month?” Eve was starting to have doubts. While the head looked amazing and it was one of her finest masterpieces, it was still up in the air if she could equip it like the system did her battery. 

“I am not sure. Theoretically, it is something that you can not attach to yourself on your own. It’s not like we can download ourselves into the new head, and if we were able to, how would it work? Would there be two of us? What would the other us think if they knew they were going to be shut down? These questions are things I can not answer, and it disturbs me. I can only hope that we can auto equip it like the battery. If not, we may end up opening a kind of paradox that no one has ever had to deal with before. The question of what makes us, us. It is truly a scary thought, and as I am an A.I. from the beginning who was created by you, I still feel scared wondering what exactly would happen but at the same time intrigued as to the results of such a thing.”
