“Eve, we can not go on like this!” Lilly yelled out as another explosion came from the side, blowing up part of the building they were in. 

“I know! With each step, it gets closer and more accurate.” Eve was running many different calculations in her mind trying to figure out the best way out of this mess, but she kept coming up blank. 

“Eve, may I suggest something?” Aiu’s voice interrupted Eve's panicked mind.

“If you have any ideas, I am all ears.” Eve was desperate. She could keep running forever, but the issue was so could the damn robot behind her. She caught a glimpse of the thing as she was running, and the A.I. was huge! It was as tall as half the still standing forty-story buildings! 

 “I have been monitoring your ability to evade its attacks, and if we wish to come out of this unharmed, I believe our only option is to fight it head-on.” Aiu suggested, but before she could continue, Eve yelled out: “What do you mean attack head-on!? That would be suicide!”

“Not actually trying to take it down head-on in a fire fight but stopping the A.I. altogether. If you were to get up onto it and access its programming somehow, you should be able to deactivate it.” Aiu explained.

“This… Aiu, is it possible to do with Lilly on my back? Will she get hurt? Because I can not just leave her here.” Eve still cared more for Lilly's safety above all else, even if it meant a chance for survival.

“That was why I said I have been monitoring your ability to evade. You are not being affected at all by Lilly’s presence. You should be able to easily do as I said, even with her on your back. Although she will need to really hold on in order to not fall off. And this is only assuming she doesn't get hit by anything stray fire from the destroyer.” Aiu replied with certainty.

“Then let’s do it!” Eve came to a sliding stop and turned around, heading in the direction of the destroyer.

“Eve!?” Lilly called out questioningly. She was unsure of what was going on.

“Lilly, just hold on to me as tight as possible. I will be doing something very crazy, but it is our only option to get out of this mess. If you get scared, just close your eyes. I will protect you with everything I have.” Eve replied as she turned her head and kissed the lips that were close to her face. 

Lilly did not know what Eve was going to do, but she trusted Eve with her entire being. She silently nodded and pushed her face into Eve’s shoulder while tightening her grip on Eve as best as she could. 

Eve dodged her way towards the destroyer with Lilly on her back, doing her best to stay a fair distance away from the impacts in order to keep Lilly from getting hurt from any debris. As she got closer to the destroyer, she got a better idea of just how massive the thing was and what it looked like. It looked like a large cricket almost, except it only had two long metal legs and no front legs and a roundish body. With each step, it took huge strides, and its front had two large cannons and a few other smaller guns.

The closer Eve got, the more the firepower the destroyer would send out. She was no longer just dealing with long-ranged attacks but also short-ranged turrets that would try to mow her down. But Eve’s speed was great and allowed her to easily move around even within the rain of bullets. “Lilly, keep your head down!”

“Mm…” Lilly was currently trembling in fear. She was afraid that the both of them would make a wrong step and die, but she could only push her worries down and hold on to Eve tightly and pray to whatever god was listening that they would make it out of this alive. 

“Eve, you need a higher ground! You need to get up on the top side of one of the legs!” Aiu announced as she analyzed the data she was getting on the destroyer from Eve’s eyes.

“The leg!?” Eve asked, making sure she heard correctly.

“Did you forget? You still have a few grenades in your inventory. You can stuff them into the leg joint and basically stop its advance, maybe even get it to fall down. It’s the only way for you to get on top of that thing that I can see anyway.”  Aiu answered. She saw no other way.  Eve only had a few grenades, and she would probably need them all to take out the joint. 

“Ahh! Fuck it! All this shit is crazy! Let’s get even crazier!” Eve yelled out as she ran into one of the buildings. She hoped at least the cement walls of the building would block some of the bullets allowing them to get up to the top of the building with less worry. 

Luckily it seemed the destroyer could not use its long-range weapons at such a close range, so the building was not bad cover. Although she could not stand in one place because it was tracking her every movement using its heat detection systems. If she did, the bullets would end up shooting holes through the walls with ease. 

Another good thing about the building was the stairs were not right next to the outer wall as well allowing for extra protection, but the weapons on the destroyer were using high caliber ammo because they were ripping the cement up with ease and with the number of bullets it was firing it was probably already in the a thousand a second. 

“At least there are no super weapons like lasers, right?” Eve said as she ran up the stairs. But it seemed her words might have triggered a flag as Aiu suddenly yelled out: “Eve duck!”

No sooner than when Eve fell to the floor, did a red ray cut through the wall as if it was a piece of paper. “Shit! Why did I have to open my mouth!?” Eve really wanted to slap herself for raising such a flag! As soon as the laser dimed down, Eve once again began her climb up the stairs.
