Reborn As An A.I. With A System
Sometimes Even The Dead Like To Go Out For Walks Part 1
Eve and Lilly walked room to room, making sure there were no unwanted guests before getting the truck backed up like they did the hauler and using the cable from the winch to climb down to the entrance of the lab. Like before, the entrance was full of dead bodies.
“Let’s go right this time. We never got to clear out any rooms from that side.” Eve said as she pointed to the right hallway. She decided to forgo tracing back over their original footsteps unless they did not find what they were looking for.
Lilly stuck close to Eve while clutching her gun. The halls here seemed unnaturally eerie. “Why does this section seem off?”
“I am not sure….” Even Eve was feeling that something was off. “Stay close and don't leave my side.”

[Rewards: Galactic Genetic Manipulation Manual, 1000 Astral Shop Points]
Eve paused her steps when she saw the mission popping up. And… “Aiu… What the hell is this!?”
“It seems the system will spring up with missions when you're in an area at a certain time. But at least the shop points are well worth it. You just need to keep Lilly alive.” Aiu responded. She seemed to only care about the shop points.
“Ahh! I wish I knew this beforehand so I could have created Lilly a suit of armor to wear.” Eve sighed. She looked at the small girl at her side. A light of determination began to fill her being. She would protect Lilly no matter what and get those shop points too! “Lilly, listen carefully.”
Lilly suddenly had a bad feeling as she nodded her head. “Alright.”
“I told you about my system. Well, it just gave me a mission, and that is to repel a wave of zombies. So for now, we will fall back and begin preparations.” Eve replied and began to slowly back up while keeping her eyes ahead. She could see perfectly fine in the dark and did not sense anything as of yet, but they needed to make preparations before they fought a wave of zombies.
[Zombie waves will start in ten minutes.]
Another notification popped up. Eve frowned but still reacted fast as she turned and scooped Lilly up and brought her to the main entrance. “Ahh! Eve!?”
“No time. I know it may seem sick, but I need you to sit tight and keep your gun on this pile of corpses. I will be preparing a small shelter for you to shoot from using these metal doors. No matter what, I will protect you, so trust me.” Eve's voice filled with urgency. She had no time to explain more as she put Lilly down and ran down the hall to rip the lab doors off their hinges. “Aiu, buy a welder and some tin from the shop.”
“On it.” Aiu quickly flipped to the tool page of the astral shop and spent three points on a welder and tin which appeared in Eve’s inventory.
While Aiu was doing that, Eve was already running back to where Lilly was and dropped off the two doors. “Lilly, take these and this welder and weld them together. I will be back with two more.”
Lilly looked at the heavy doors and frowned. She looked at Eve’s retreating back with a complex look. But she still tried to move them on her own. She knew Eve was in a rush and was not thinking things out completely, but she understood what Eve was doing. These doors, when welded together, would make a safe place for her to fire from.
[Zombie waves will start in five minutes.]
Eve returned quickly with to more doors and felt bad when she saw Lilly struggling with the doors. She quickly went over and placed the doors she had in her hands down and helped Lilly move the doors to the wall. “You weld I will hold.”
“Okay.” Lilly nodded and went right to work.
Time was ticking, and welding anything will take a while to do. Eve held the doors in place, and when the second one was almost welded in place, another message popped up in front of her.
[Zombie waves will start in one minute.]
The final three sides were welded together when the message saying that waves would be started popped up in front of Eve. Eve had no more time. She could already hear the sounds of shuffling coming from down the hall. “Lilly, I am pushing you up against the wall and putting the final door on top. You need to weld it while I hold off the wave.”
“Okay!” Lilly also heard the shuffling sounds echoing throughout the lab and, along with it, the sounds of horrific moaning. She felt a shiver run down her spine as she worked as fast as she could. She was happy that they were able to get three doors welded together, and all that was left was the top. If she could at least get one section welded before anything happens, she would be able to relax and weld the rest in peace. She had complete faith in Eve, but she still felt scared thinking about zombies. Especially after hearing about how Solar City was closed off due to them. Lilly looked up through the thick glass of the door at Eve, who was preparing for battle, and hoped things would turn out okay.
Eve stood in front of the small little shelter made of doors and looked down the hallway. The first zombie came into view, causing Eve’s brow to wrinkle. It looked shriveled up and was wearing a lab coat. It walked with a slight limp, with its arms swaying from side to side. The moaning and groaning sounds it made were no different than the movies she saw back when she was young in her past life. But what she wanted to know was where did they come from? How did zombies suddenly show up in a lab she had searched before? A lot of questions were popping up in her mind as she raised her gun to eye level and fired her first shot at the zombie's head.
